About the Korean Thanksgiving, Chuseok

Like the American Thanksgiving holiday, many Korean people return to their hometowns to gather with family to celebrate Chuseok. The Korean Thanksgiving lasts for three days and it originates as a symbolization of good harvest. As in the case of the American Thanksgiving that takes places on the fourth Thursday of every November, Chuseok is celebrated on the 15th day of the 8th month of the lunar calendar.

Why Songpyeon Rice Cakes for Korean Thanksgiving?

Songpyeon is a type of the Korean rice cake, tteok that contain a sweet honey filling, sweet red bean paste, and chestnut paste steamed over a layer of pine needles. The Songpyeon has significant cultural importance as one of the main foods consumed and exchanged on Chuseok as a gesture of appreciation or gratitude.
